The Great Wall of Chinga Project was the inaugural project of the Ministry of Culture. It was launched on November 2, 2006 as a call to visual artists, performers, writers and other creative people to respond to the planned 700 mile barrier along the U.S./Mexican border.

The goal of The Great Wall of Chinga Project was to deconstruct the wall before it can be constructed, to tear down the fallacy of the fence with purposeful ridicule, serious mockery and savage satire.

Chinga, in this context means: being in a state of angst, being in the middle of the tempest.

This video is a slideshow of words & images submitted by the great Chinese American artist Zhong Hongtu.

Another great art work was created by Forrest Cokely in the form of an original song. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“To test the mike on a camera my friend asked me to play anything. We had be drinking and talking about the wall so i improvised this song. This is the first time i ever even imagined it, and to record it later- i had to ‘learn’ it from the video.”
